Hi Everybody, I woke up one morning and it was the 1st of January, and it seems like I woke up the next morning and it was the 1st of February. Time waits for no one. January seemed like a blur, but we did manage to accomplish a few things. ![]() We loaded up the motorhome and headed to the Greensboro, NC RV show to conduct some seminars. I did 8 seminars over 3 days and we had the opportunity to meet lots of people and to see all of the new RV’s coming out for 2007.
![]() When we returned home I winterized our RV and cleaned it from top to bottom. It will be taking a break in our new Miracle Truss Building until we see some signs of spring arriving. We actually had some flowers blooming around here until recently when temperatures plummeted into the 20’s. Our first Wal-Mart order shipped successfully and should be arriving in stores the second week of February. Wal-Mart has over 4,000 stores so our products won’t be available everywhere. If you’re curious whether it’s in a store near you just take a look in the RV section located in the automotive department the next time you visit a local Wal-mart. I mentioned last month that we were hammering out some last minute details to offer our DVD titles as instant video downloads. Our customers spoke and we listened! Eight of our ten DVD titles are now available as instant video downloads at our new website www.rvdownloads.com This project has taken over two years to complete so we are extremely excited. We will be adding the remaining DVD titles soon, and as new DVD titles come available. Because we are able to cut out some overhead costs, like shipping and packaging, we can offer the instant downloads at a lower price, plus you don’t have to wait for the DVD to arrive in the mail. If you would like to get more information on the instant video downloads you can read a Press Release: RV "How-To-Video Producer Offers Cutting Edge Instant Video Downloads for RV Consumers"I also mentioned that we were working with National Interstate Insurance and Explorer RV Insurance to help educate the RV consumer on important topics about RV insurance and how to avoid common RV insurance claims. Long range plans involve launching a new website packed with great information, free video tips and more. Short range plans involve things like the “RV Insurance Corner” being added to our newsletter each month, where we will offer some great tips to help you avoid becoming an RV insurance statistic. I’ll keep you updated on this and other projects as they progress. Until next month happy camping, Mark

There are lots of things to do and to see in the wintertime; beautiful winter scenery, snow skiing, hunting, riding snowmobiles and much more. It's no wonder so many people enjoy using their RV's year round. When winter approaches each year I get numerous e-mails requesting information about using RV's in cold temperatures. One reason I haven't written on this subject in the past is because it would require more than just a short article to thoroughly cover this topic. Another reason for not writing about this in the past is that there are no guarantees that your RV can or will be 100% protected from the harsh winter elements by following written advice on the subject...Read More..

Century Carpets in RVs can a pain to deal with. The grade is marginal in most and they receive a lot of wear. Keeping such carpet clean is difficult. We replaced our carpet with a sub floor of half-inch plywood topped with vinyl planking floor. Each strip is glued down individually so it looks like hardwood but wears like vinyl. We chose planking instead of laminates because the narrower pieces are easier to install in tight places, plus we have two dogs that occasionally have accidents. We love our new washable floor mainly because with a quick sweep all the freshly cut grass, dirt, sand etc., is cleaned up with little effort. I add a coating of Mop and Glow wax with a wet cloth and the floor is set for another day. On our previous two motorhomes we added a one-piece vinyl floor. It's not as classy as our vinyl planking, and depending on the amount of cutting, installation can even be more costly. We hired a professional flooring installer to ensure the end result had a professional look About RV LIVING IN THE 21ST CENTURY

RV Education 101 has added a new monthly addition to the newsletter: The RV Insurance Corner. We feel that prevention is the best protection. We also feel that by adding some real life stories of insurance claims, we can help educate you and bring awareness regarding subjects that you may never have considered. Insurance Corner: Learning About RV Insurance Through Stories and Examples Protecting Against the Cost of Depreciation of Your RV When you drive your RV off the dealer lot, it begins to depreciate immediately. If you experience a total loss of your RV once it has depreciated, the value of your RV will be much lower than the cost to replace it. Specialty RV Insurance companies like National Interstate offer coverages to protect RV owners from the effects of depreciation in the event of a total loss. One such coverage is Purchase Price Guarantee. With this coverage, in the event of a total loss, the insurance company will pay the RV owner the purchase price they paid for the original vehicle towards the purchase of a replacement vehicle. This amount is nearly always greater than the Actual Cash Value of the vehicle. If the RV owner did not have Purchase Price Guarantee, the insurance company would only pay the RV Owner the Actual Cash Value at the time of the loss. Here is a real life example of the positive impact of Purchase Price Guarantee. An owner of a 40’ 2000 American Coach Eagle was in Mississippi in 2006 when their RV caught fire and was destroyed. The individual had a National Interstate Insurance Company policy through Explorer RV Insurance Agency, Inc. The Actual Cash Value of the RV was determined to be $159,635. The RV owner, however, paid $296,000 for the RV 6 years earlier. If the individual not had Purchase Price Guarantee, the insurance company would have only paid $159,635. Fortunately, the owner had this specialty coverage. The insurance coverage paid $289,694, the cost of the new RV, when the destroyed unit was replaced with a 40’ 2006 American Coach Eagle. By purchasing this additional coverage, the owner saved $130,059. The owner could have received up to $296,000 for a new unit had the owner purchased a more expensive replacement. Fuel cells are in the news. Most of us have heard stories on TV or radio, or read articles in newspapers or magazines about fuel cells in our future. In this four- part series, FunRoads.com will take a look at fuel cells, how they work, what they mean to RVers, and what Onan is doing in the area of fuel cells for the RV market.
RV Newsletter Archives Q & A by Mark Polk Q: How do I drain the water heater? A: Locate the water heater compartment on the outside of the RV. In the lower left hand corner you will see a drain plug. Remove the plug and let it drain until it is empty. You can open the pressure relief valve at the top of the water heater to assist in draining. You can install a small valve to make draining the water heater tank easier to drain in place of the drain plug, so you don’t have to remove the plug every time you drain it. Check with your local RV dealer. It is a good practice to drain the water heater every time you get back from a trip. CAUTION! Never attempt to drain the water heater when it’s hot or under pressure. Do not attempt to drain the water heater when water is hooked up to the RV or when the water pump is on. Open a hot water faucet to relieve the pressure before draining.

About us:
Our goal with this monthly newsletter is to provide you with helpful information to make all of your RV experiences more enjoyable. I left my position as an RV Sales and F&I manager in 2000 to start my own company, RV Education 101. We produce educational videos, DVDs and e-books on how to use and maintain your RV. The reason I left my job was due to my concern about the lack of educational and safety awareness material available to the RV consumer, in other words, you. We are a small company. My wife Dawn left her position in RV sales to help start the company and is our Sales and Marketing Director. We currently have a 35-foot Class A motor home. We have two boys, Tyler 10 and Josh 16, both avid RVers and two dogs, Gracie and Buck. Gracie is the good one.
